“Back Burner Breakthrough” Exercise

With so many of our plans, routines, and freedoms being disrupted right now, many of us feel like we’re not making progress—or worse, losing the progress we’ve already made. Whether it’s improving our physical fitness or getting more sleep, gaining a new capability or technology for our business, or finally organizing the spare room in the house, we all have projects on the back burner we’ve been meaning to accomplish but haven’t had the time for.

Until now.

NOW, when all of life has slowed down, we can finally tackle those projects that have been sitting at the bottom of our to-do lists. We can finally focus on something other than the demands of regular life.

How to use the "Back Burner Breakthrough" tool: 

  1. Take two minutes to write down a list of all of your back burner items, both personal and professional.
  2. Choose one you’d like to move from the back of your mind to the forefront of your focus.
  3. Create an Impact Filter to sell yourself (and others) on the project.
    • Why is this important to achieve?
    • What would be the best results—and the worst?
    • What are the success criteria?
  4. Set a deadline. When will you have this finished by?
  5. Repeat as often as you’d like!

We all want to feel like we’re moving forward, and setting specific, measurable, and achievable goals is the best way to do it. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by!
